Waterwest Kitchen & Meats is a neighbourhood market aimed at bringing a multifaceted restaurant & take-out experience to the West End of St. John’s. Offering a full service cafe, restaurant & bar, bakery, and butcher shop.

Our space is the newest resource in your routine for handmade grab & go meals, and all the goods you need to make the perfect dinner at home. Our offerings includes fresh pastas, crafted breads, deep sauces, speciality butcher cuts, restaurant quality charcuterie accoutrements, and much more.

The eat-in restaurant at WaterWest sits adjacent to our cafe and will feature a butcher driven menu, offering cuts of meat from our dry-age chamber alongside fresh pastas, classic cocktails, and artfully appointed wine program.

Our Meat


Our philosophy is simple. Quality products from close to home, treated humanely, and butchered with care. We are dedicated to not only sourcing the healthiest Atlantic Canadian products, but also to giving the meats the respect they deserve. That's why when it came to designing our butcher shop, we didn’t skimp.
Our space is set up with state-of-the-art equipment, including a built-in dry aged chamber. This dry aged chamber will highlight some of our favourite cuts of meat, with a rotating selection of specialty cuts shifting seasonally. Come say hi and see what we’re up to!

Our Kitchen


Our 20 seat restaurant operates on a first come, first serve basis. Although we do not accept reservations, we’re happy to put you on a waiting list if you pop by. Sipping on a cappuccino in Victoria Park or knocking back a couple of classic cocktails in our retail area while you wait for a seat are both highly encouraged.

Our Story


Owners Stephen Lee and Todd Perrin are passionate about celebrating the diversity of our province through great, made-from-the-heart food and dining experiences.

They opened their first restaurant in 2013, Mallard Cottage has been winning awards and exceeding expectations ever since. Then, in 2017, the duo opened The Inn by Mallard Cottage, a boutique hotel/inn with seven quality rooms offering experiences unlike any other in St. John’s.

With five decades of combined hospitality experience between them, they had a desire to open a new space in the west end of St. John’s, the neighbourhood Stephen has called home for the last decade. They had a dream to open a new space where folks could sit and eat, or swing in for a quick coffee and grab food, bread and meat to enjoy at home.

They landed on the name Waterwest almost by accident. Going through round after round of brain storming sessions to come up with that perfect name, all the while referring to the new venture as “Water West” when discussing with contractors, etc. Lists of names were drawn up, many of which could have been great, but in the end the temp name Water West felt right. The two words were converted in to one, and Waterwest was born.
